Vegan Pakodas


  • 1 small pumpkin, peeled and grated
  • 1 cup chickpea flour
  • 1/4 cup rice flour
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • Salt, to taste
  • Oil, for frying


  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the grated pumpkin, chickpea flour, rice flour, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala, and salt. Mix well.
  2. Gradually add water to the mixture, stirring until you have a thick, smooth batter.
  3. Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium-high heat.
  4. Using a tablespoon, drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil, and fry until golden brown and crispy.
  5. Use a slotted spoon to remove the pakodas from the oil and transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
  6. Serve the pumpkin pakodas hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
